I have two cats(sisters). My cat Bumbaloo is loosing hair near her tail.I took her to the vet (300$) and they said it was fleas, so i got frontline, Ive been using it 2 months, they told me i might need to bomb the apartment becuse the fleas live in the carpet. I vaccumed the hell out of my carpet.NOW my other cat is slowly showing the same symptoms,Hair loss near tail, the hair is brittle because i heard the cats saliva weakens it when licked so much. I know someone with same thing and thought their cats were going to die,%26amp; started using a hydrocortizone spray(for cats) %26amp; some other stuff(forgot what) and now their hair is growing back. i am moving to a new place so it shouldnt have ANY fleas and if the problmem worsens i will have to take them both in again. it makes me mad bcuz if fleas arent the problem, he did an exam %26amp; just looked at it, how come no tests were done, so i can come in again and pay another 45 just for bringing the cat in? does/did anyone have this problem? Thanks

Yep sounds like fleas. Another thing to do, besides everything you already are doing, is to vacuum the carpeting and floors daily. I've heard that some folks sprinkle something like "borax" on their carpets after enclosing their pets in another room, and then vacuum it up after two hours.
Washing pet bedding also helps.
Good luck.

I recommend calling several vets and explaining to them the situation that way you have several ideas of what can be done and how much they would charge. It's a good thing that you're moving to a new place. I hope your cats get better.

My cat lost the hair near his tail from fleas. You need to be using frontline or advantage on both cats every month. Fleas can come from anywhere and even come in on people.
Fleas can be such a ***** to get rid of. Hopefully in the new place it wont be a problem.
Now reading this I find a $300 vet bill to diagnose fleas to be incredibly steep. I would wonder if perhaps he was screwing you over a little. If you are ever in doubt of your vet, get a 2nd opinion!

Flea Dermatitis. It's a skin condition caused by the saliva of the flea when it bites. Basically they are allergic to fleas. Even one flea will do it. They will lose patches of hair anywhere and lick and bite (it's like a person with poison ivy). Using Frontline is good (better than Advantage for fleas). There are special medications and shampoos for the skin condition. A vet can give you prescriptions for steriods and antihistimines for the allergy.
You should control fleas loose in the house with a flea bomb (Raid makes one).
I would definitely consider taking the cat to a different vet.

I am sorry for your dilemma and just like everybody else has said Fleas can be really hard to get rid of.
The only other thing you may not know is animals can get a flea allergy to fleas. So it would only take 1 bite from a fleas for cat to start itching like mad, thus resulting in Alopecia (hair loss).
I would like to know if the vet put your cat on any medication? Like Systemic cortisone? This can help with the itching until the cat has it under control.
Great that you are moving house. And at certain times of the years Fleas can be really prevalent.
You are using the best stuff known too man in frontline this s a brilliant product.
If you have a dog make sure the dog is flead as well as the other cat is also flead.
Fleas need a host and if all the animal hosts in the family are covered you will not have a flea problem for long. Make sure you worm them as well otherwise the flea tapeworm will be the next problem
Good luck

A single flea can lay a lot of eggs , the eggs hatch and the larvae will move to dark places eg the gap under skirting board, under your furniture, cracks in the wall etc.
so what you need to do is get a good household flea treatment and squirt everywhere - underneath stuff, all around the edges of the rooms, down the corners on the sofas - really go to town with it. At the same time treat your cats and wash anything you can -bedding etc. Have a good vacuum around and hope for the best. It is a total pain and you may have to do it a couple of times because if you miss a couple they will reinfest again.
Good luck

Try putting some garlic in your cat food because fleas hate garlic and they not get on them even if there are in your yard or carpet, but you sill need to do something about the carpet because they will get onto you
Cat is loosing hair near tail?
I have four cats and I have run into the same problem. One began to loose hair and it was due to fleas. The vet wanted me to do this long list of things including paying for a lot of things that I knew did not work. I put him outside for a week and he slowly started to get better. Something about being outside and them rolling around in the dirt. I live in the country so I can let my animals outside and not have to worry too much about their well being.
Once he got better we let him come back inside and everything is fine. I can not stand how vets want you to pay big bucks for treatments that they know do not work.
I hope your cat gets better. I know what it is like to worry about a pet you care for.

It definately does sound like fleas and they are a b*****d to get rid of! Firstly only 5% of the fleas will live on your pet - 95% live in your home (just jumping on your pet to feed)
It sounds like your cats have something called FAD, flea allergic dermatitis. So it only takes1 flea bite your pet and it sends them into such irritation. Frontline is OK to use but they do, do a newer one called Frontline Combo but this is a prescription only medicine and therefore your vet can prescribe it for you. Usually only about 鎷? more than normal Frontline. But more than anything you must do your home. The bombs are no good. They sell sprays either called VetKem Acclaim2000 or Staykil, you spray your entire house, curtains, skirting etc pets beds and it will kill all fleas in your house for upto a year.
Good luck!
