Why does my hair look different when its been straightened?

When ive washed my hair and let it dry naturally it looks so shiny and nourished and my colour looks good but when i straighten my hair a few hours later with ghd's it doesnt look as shiny, etc, and my colour looks faded. I really have to straighten my hair though as its terrible when its not. I use good protective spray and serum.

no matter how much product you use.... heated appliances will frazzle your hair making it look dry and dull. it sounds as though your hair sounds gorgeous naturally so try occasionally laying off the straightners and wearing it au natural

Have you tried a shine serum like Redken Glass? It will help smooth out the hair and give it a shinier appearance. The reason why your hair isnt as shiny is because the heat from the styling tools dries out the hair shaft. Try not to heat style as much. Wear your hair natural a few days a week, then go for the flat iron look on weekends or something special.

It's the heat .

Are you using a ceremic plate straightener? I know that they are much healthier for your hair. Either way straightening is very hard on your hair. It actually smoothes the follicles, so they lay flat. When your follicles are open your hair has more ability to let light through it and that will make your hair lighter in color and shinier.

Unfortunately if your using protective spray and serum, theres not much more you can do. You will have to decide which is better your hair unstraightened and shiny or your hair straight and duller. Or if your really bothered by this, have your hairdresser lighten your hair a few shades and use a shine cream on it, so it will keep that same luster when its straightened.

Smiles :-)
