How do I keep my dair hair color from fading?

I naturally have a medium ash brown hair color. I prefer it to be darker and redder, so two weeks ago, I had it professionally colored a dark chocolate brown.

However, despite using Bedhead (i.e. expensive salon products) shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair and using a Regis (also a salon product) leave in color protecting spray, I am finding that the color is already beginning to fade.

I do not swim nor do I spend excessive amounts of time in the sun. What can I do to make the color last without fading? Are there any particular products that are good for this?

Thanks!

Hey, I know just what you're going through. Well the last time I had my hair cut, I asked the lady who cut it about that very problem. She said there isn't any magical thing to make it stay forever, but gave me these tips. !# don't use any more than a pea size amount of conditioner. 2#

Don't put any conditioner on the top part of your hair, because it's already oily there. and 3# Wash with almost cool water %26amp; rinse with cooool water. Heat makes the color fade fast! And guess what? It actually worked for me. Try it, it might work for you too.

Dark colours do not last that long, but you can use a semipermanent by L'oreal or Clairol Herbal Essences to give the colour a lift. There is also a colour-boosting glaze that takes ten minutes and is being advertised by Clairol, but I have never used it. Try a mahogany or bronze brown next time, or even a golden brown. They will last a little longer. You need a shampoo and conditioner, like one from Redken, that is designed for colour maintenance.

ask your stylist if she used permanent or non permanet color , that could be the reason , being your hair lighter if is semi permanent it will no matter what fade after some shampoos. Ask her to put permanent so you only have to touch up the roots otherwise you will have to refresh everymonth. another thing that helps is shampoo with color on it. Sexy hair , paul mithchell and artec have these types that deposit some pigment for the last week before next color appointment. Reds are difficult to keep vibrant and we only have to deal with the fact. I use that mocha color too and sun really dont help.

First of all is it a temporary color (rinse), Semi permanent, demi permanent, or permanent. It matters because, if its a rinse it will bleed and be on your collar, pillow and everything else, but it's actually supposed to hence the name. Rinses usually last up to 4-6 shampoos, Semi perm's last from 4-6 weeks (assuming you use a color protecting shampoo and conditioner). Demi perm's last the same as semi's and Permanents are of course permanent and won't wash out and instead grow out.

So it matters what type of color, what type of shampoo, your hair porosity, and also the environment.

Have you complained to your stylist as to what the cause of the color not lasting, if they cannot give you a direct answer that you are comfortable with, my advise would be to do your research and change stylists and keep in mind just because they own or work in a salon doesn't mean they are professionals and could just be in it for the buck!

Hope I helped
